Pennsylvania is one of 12 states that has a school nurse staffing mandate. One nurse per 1,500 students is twice the federal recommendation.
Middle school nurse Kacie Blum said she had nearly 12,000 visits to her office this past academic year, seeing 60 to 75 students a day.
